Carlyle Lake
Carlyle Lake is a 26,000 acre reservoir largely located in Clinton County, Illinois, with smaller portions of the lake within Bond and Fayette counties. The lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which built Carlyle Dam across the Kaskaskia River. It is the largest man-made lake in Illinois, and the largest lake wholly contained within the state.

Eldon Hazlet State Park
Eldon Hazlet State Park, one of the largest campgrounds in the Illinois state park system, being some 3,000 acres on the west shore of Carlyle Lake. The park was named for Carlyle attorney Eldon Hazlet who was the first president of the Kaskaskia Valley Association, which organized and promoted construction of two of Illinois’ three largest reservoir/recreational complexes - Carlyle Lake and Lake Shelbyville - plus other improvements on the Kaskaskia River.

Carlyle Sailing Association
The Carlyle Sailing Association offers a sailboat rental program, featuring a Hobie Wave (a 15-foot catamaran), a Capri 16
(a 16-foot day sailor) and a Flying Scot (19-foot, great for
racing or day-sailing.) The boats can be rented by qualified
skippers for half or full days.
Bent Oak Golf Course
Bent Oak is located in nearby Breese, Illinois. This 9 hole 3,290 yard course also features irrigated Bermuda grass fairways and a lighted driving range.
Carlyle Lake Golf Club
Carlyle Lake Golf Club is another of the areas 9 hole courses. At 3,309 yards, this nearby par 36 course is perfect for the duffer who only has a couple of hours to spend on the links.
Governor's Run Golf Course
Governor's Run hosts 18 holes of championship golf, a full service Pro Shop and the White Sands Restaurant. The 7,013 yard course has 13 lakes scattered throughout the par 72 layout. It boasts 5 sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. The 9 hole lighted Par 3 Course is a short game challenge. Governor's Run also offers a full practice facility including putting and chipping greens as well as a lighted practice range.
Twin Oaks Golf Course
Twin Oaks Golf Club is a scenic 9 hole course with rolling hills, mature Oak Trees and water hazards. A perfect course for beginners to intermediate golfers or for the player who has less than 2 hours to play a round of golf.
Biking and Hiking
The Carlyle Lake Bike Trail is a cooperative effort between the City of Carlyle and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The trail is comprised of over 20 miles of bike trails and routes that connect the City to the southern edge of Carlyle Lake and public lands maintained by the Corps. Tour Carlyle and take in great views of the lake and adjacent farmland, prairie, and wetlands. The trail consists of looped routes within the City that take you through historic neighborhoods, main commercial districts, restaurants and shops. It also consists of an out-and-back ride along the top of the Carlyle Lake Dam.

flavors of Southwest Illinois wineries. The trail's twelve distinct wineries are small to medium in size and proud of their well-crafted red and white wines that range from bone dry to dessert sweet.
